- The card catalog is arranged alphabetically.
- The letters and figures in the upper left hand corner of each card shows where the book maybe found in the shelf.
- Copy the Call Number in a p-slip then, locate the book in the shelves. The books arranged numerical order form 000 – 999 or the Dewey Decimal Classification System.
The Call Number
– is the information written at the left portion of the card and it could also be located at the spine of the book.
PARTS OF THE CATALOG CARD
CATALOG CARDS are the cards inside the card catalog. A catalog card consists of an author card, title card, and subject card, see reference card and see also card.

THE PERIODICAL INDEX CARD
The periodical index card guides us where specific information of a topic can be found in magazines and journals. It is arranged in alphabetical order by subject or topic.How to use:
- Copy the title of the magazine, volume no. issue no., page and date of issue.
- Fill up the request slip and give it to the periodical in-charge.
